Visual Number Talk Bars Activity Set

Visual Number Talks Bars and Bar Models are both hands-on manipulative learning tools that can be used to represent operational problems. When using Visual Number Talks Bars, each piece represents a specific quantity, while any Bar Models piece can represent any quantity.

Our Visual Number Talks Bars/Bar Models Activity Cards for Addition & Subtraction of Whole Numbers to 10 offer a unique 3-step learning process to help students use either type of bars to represent their understanding of operational word problems.

Developing My Understanding: The 10 red cards introduce concepts through teacher-led instruction. One side of the write-on/wipe-off card is a word problem without quantities to help students focus on the action of the problem. The other side of the card is the same word problem with quantities for students to solve.

Analyzing My Understanding: The 20 yellow cards give students a write-on/wipe-off space to practice their problem solving skills using multiple model examples and strategies. The cards are self-checking and prepare students to solve more complex problems.

Communicating My Understanding: The 15 green cards have a word problem on each side for a total of 30 questions for students to demonstrate independent thinking.
