Description
EAI® Education Bar Models make modeling mathematical concepts a hands-on, logical experience for students. Each set of Bar Models features 84 vibrantly colored dry-erase pieces in 12 different lengths, ranging from 1-12cm, (24) red, (12) orange, (10) yellow, (6) light green, (4) green, (4) pink, (4) light purple, (4) purple, (4) light blue, (4) blue, (4) brown, and (4) gray. The set includes a zippered vinyl pouch for easy storage.
Bar Models give students the ability to build the concrete structure of a problem, transfer to a Bar Model drawing of the problem (also referred to as a Strip Diagram), then migrate to the abstract, or algorithm, to solve the problem. The flat, dry-erase writing surface on each piece allows students to "write what they are modeling" directly on the Bar Model with a dry-erase marker to assist with the visual representation of a problem, then assign values to the other Bar Model tiles using the relationship of size among the pieces.
For elementary learners, Bar Models provide a hands-on of model for flexible thinking in representing all the operational problems which include joining, separating, or comparing numbers. Bar Models can be used to show missing addends, the commutative property, equivalence, writing number sentences, and more.
For upper elementary and middle school learners, Bar Models can be expanded to demonstrate student thinking involving factors, multiples, fractions, ratios, proportions, rates, algebraic reasoning, and more. Set of 84 pieces.
