Fractions with Understanding is powerfully effective in clarifying fractional number concepts, relationships, and operations because it combines physical models, pictures, and notational representation. Meaningful learning takes place when students can visualize fractions, processes, and results.
The 48 Thinkcards® provide a broad range of experiences with physical, pictorial, and abstract representation of fractions, equivalents, ordered relationships, relative size, common denominators, addition, subtraction, etc. Included are operations with mixed numbers. The 115 number tiles and 150 high-quality card stock pattern blocks are used to build and name models of fractions. The expanded pattern block set includes whole hexagons, (representing 1), halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, and twelfths. The generous supply of pieces enables up to six pairs of students to be involved simultaneously.
